Chile will compete at Rugby World Cup 2027 in Australia. Los Cóndores booked their place at the tournament by completing an upset win over Samoa in Viña del Mar. The homecoming win was historic and saw Los Cóndores qualifying for a second ever Rugby World Cup and backing-up their debut from France 2023.
Chile’s inaugural Rugby World Cup campaign involved matches against Japan, Samoa, England and Argentina. Los Cóndores can be forgiven for having a winless campaign against a formidable set of opponents. Chile has since put together an impressive list of results to suggest that qualifying for France 2023 was no fluke. Chile has wins over Australia 2027 participants Canada, Romania, Uruguay and Samoa over the past 12 months.

Additional names no longer active for Los Cóndores include Second-rower Pablo Huete and flanker Ignacio Silva who both retired. They were key members of the roster during the previous World Cup cycle. Fellow flanker Thomas Orchard is not involved in the present cycle.

Fifteen players made their test debuts for Chile in 2024 and two so far in 2025. The 2025 debutants were forwards Augusto Vilanueva and Santiago Valenzuela who both featured against Romania in their only cap so far.
Lemoine debuted Vilanueva and Valenzuela to cover injuries. Both cover flanker and second-row as does vice-captain, Clemente Saavedra who has led Chile throughout 2025 due to injury to Martín Sigren. Sigren, Saavedra, Alfonso Escobar and Raimundo Martínez are the regular four back-rowers in a Chilean 23.
Javier Carrasco started every 2024 match at loose head and remains first choice with Diego Escobar and Iñaki Gurruchage joining him in the futon-row. Gurrichaga has overtaken the French-based Matías Dittus since the World Cup. Meanwhile, Javier Eissmann and Santiago Pedrero are the common second-row combination with Bruno Sáez now being the understudy.
Benjamín Videla became the regular starting scrum-half in 2024 while there has been variation at fly half with Tomás Salas, Juan Cruz Reyes, Rodrigo Fernández and Santiago Videla all starting tests since the World Cup. This is so with Santiago Videla having been the regular inside center in 2024. Domingo Saavedra remains the starting outside center.
Matías Garafulic covers both centers and wing; he is assured of a spot in the XV. Nicolás Garafulic, who missed the World Cup through injury, is a regular on the wing with newcomer Nicolás Saab covering center and wing. Saab and Clemente Armstrong have both been used this way by Lemoine. Cristóbal Game has been widely used on the wing and Luca Strabucchi at fullback. Both can be classified as understudies to Iñaki Ayarza.

Rugby World Cup 2023 featured four pools of five teams each. Rugby World Cup 2027 will feature an even number of four teams per pool spread across six pools. One result of the expansion is that teams from the same pool will be able to play on the same day.
The ability to evenly spread matches will decrease the need for teams to rotate or juggle their players during the group stage. As such, teams ought to, in theory, be able to field their top line-up throughout the pool stage with few rather than many changes.
