8. DeVonta Smith
After the final practice of minicamp, Eagles reporters got a chance to speak with DeVonta Smith for the first time since the immediate aftermath of the Super Bowl LIX win.
Smith was asked where his catch of the Dagger against the Chiefs ranks among the best catches in his career.
“Top three,” Smith said.
If you needed any reminder of just how clutch Smith has been, even dating back to his time at Alabama, that was a pretty good one.
As he gets set to enter Year 5 of his NFL career, the former first-round pick hasn’t yet been a Pro Bowler or an All-Pro. He’s firmly entrenched as the No. 2 receiver in Philly behind A.J. Brown. But there’s a reason Smith is one of the most popular athletes in Philly.
He’s dependable and clutch.
In 2024, Smith missed a few games with injury but still managed to catch 68 passes for 833 yards and 8 touchdowns in 13 games. Those 833 yards were a career-low but Smith had another good postseason with 16 catches for 190 yards and a touchdown to seal the Eagles’ victory in Super Bowl LIX.
With nine playoff games under his belt, Smith is already the Eagles’ all-time leading receiver in the postseason with 595 yards. Dallas Goedert is second with 562 and Harold Carmichael is third with 465. Smith is still just 26 years old and under contract through the 2028 season, so he should continue to separate himself.
The only players in the NFL with more postseason receiving yards since 2021 are Travis Kelce (1,086), Mike Evans (597). Cooper Kupp has exactly 595 too.
Here’s a look at Smith’s four regular seasons in his NFL career:
2021: (17 games) 64 catches on 104 targets, 916 yards, 5 touchdowns
2022: (17 games) 95 catches on 136 targets, 1,196 yards, 7 touchdowns
2023: (16 games) 81 catches on 112 targets, 1,066 yards, 7 touchdowns
2024: (13 games) 68 catches on 89 targets, 833 yards, 8 touchdowns
Since Brown joined the Eagles in 2021, he has had more receiving yards than Smith but those two form one of the best receiver duos in the NFL. While Brown is considered to be one of the best overall receivers in the NFL, Smith is widely considered one of the best No. 2s, a player who could be a No. 1 on a ton of NFL teams.
