Korea’s rising star Lee Eun Ho announced his arrival on the big stage claiming his career’s first compound men individual gold medal at the 24th Asian Archery Championships on Thursday.
The 19-year-old’s breakthrough win was laced by victories over top ranked compatriots Kim Jongho in the semifinals and Choi Yonghee in the gold medal match.
Just like he started off with perfect 30, Eun Ho finished his campaign in Dhaka with a 30, enough to beat his senior compatriot Yonghee, the bronze medallist Gwangju 2025 Hyundai World Archery Championships, 146-143.
Top seed Jongho, meanwhile, settled for fourth place after losing the bronze medal match to Malaysia’s seasoned star Mohd Juwaidi Mazuki, who shot a brilliant round of 148.
Jongho however paired with Yonghee and Eun Ho to claim the bronze medal in compound men’s team event which was won by Kazakhstan, comprising Bunyod Mirzametov, Dilmukhamet Mussa and Andrey Tyutyun. India, led by the world no. 10 Abhishek Verma, fell short by one point to settle for the silver.  Â
The compound women’s final was an all-Indian affair – with reigning Asian Games champion Jyothi Surekha Vennam claiming her third individual gold medal at the Asian Championships after previously winning it in 2015 and 2021.
On Friday, Vennam who played a near-perfect round of 149 in the semifinals against Chinese Taipei’s Chen Si-yu, overcame a tough challenge from 17-year-old compatriot Prithika Pradeep, silver medallist at Winnipeg 2025, before winning the final by two points (147-145).
Earlier, the Indian challengers Vennam and Pradeep have combined with Deepshikha to win the compound women team gold over Korea represented by Oh Yoohyun, Park Yerin and Park Jungyoon.
Bangladesh’s emerging star Most Kulsum Akther Mone pipped Chinese Taipei’s Si-yu by one point in the bronze medal play-off and claimed the second medal for the host. It was Kulsum Akther’s career’s first medal.Â
Meanwhile, home duo Bonna Akter and Himu Bachhar, who have raised hopes of nation’s first ever gold medal at the Asian Championships, settled for the silver in compound mixed team that was won by India comprising Verma and youngster Deepshikha.
Competition in Dhaka concludes with recurve team and individual finals on Friday.
