Diana Taurasi Spoke About Caitlin Clark in a Way That Ended Speculation originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

Before Caitlin Clark entered the WNBA in 2024, there were talks that Diana Taurasi was jealous of her. It came after the then-Phoenix Mercury star appeared to warn Clark and the rest of the draft class that “reality is coming” to them.

During the recent National Sports Collector Convention, however, Taurasi addressed the issue and shut it down once and for all.

Where Did the Caitlin Clark-Diana Taurasi Beef Speculation Start?

In April 2024, while covering the showdown between Clark’s Iowa Hawkeyes and Bueckers’ UConn Huskies for the “Bird & Taurasi Show,” Taurasi appeared to take a shot at Clark a couple of times.

When she was asked who she would take between Bueckers and Clark if they were in the same class, Taurasi didn’t hesitate to choose the former. It wasn’t a surprising choice since they share the UConn bond—DT played for the Huskies from 2000 to 2004—but it still sparked the narrative that she doesn’t like Clark.

Several fans also took issue with Taurasi’s “reality is coming” comment about the 2024 draft class in the same instance, with many believing she was criticizing Clark and playing down her dominance at the collegiate level.

“You look superhuman playing 18-year-olds, but you’re going to come with some grown women who’ve been playing professional basketball for a long time,” Taurasi said at the time.

How Taurasi Truly Feels About Clark

Amid the ongoing rumors that she has a beef with Clark, Taurasi addressed the issue and clarified that she has a good relationship with her.

The three-time WNBA champion, who is widely considered the GOAT of women’s basketball, even went as far as to say that she and the Indiana Fever star are “really good friends.”

“We get along really well. We got some great interactions,” Taurasi stated. “I just absolutely love what she does on the court, off the court. When I watch her play, and the way she goes about her business, there’s a seriousness about it that I love.”

“You know, she’s taking this game to new heights and it’s been amazing to watch and follow her. You know, it’s only gonna get better for our league and for Caitlin.”
