LAWRENCE — Kansas basketball has enjoyed a five-game winning streak, which has helped the Jayhawks rise to No. 11 in Monday’s update of the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.
The Jayhawks (16-5, 6-2 in Big 12) were ranked No. 14 last week. During this most recent stretch, they defeated now-No. 14 BYU in Big 12 Conference play. This week, they’re set to go up against No. 13 Texas Tech on Monday on the road and Utah on Saturday at home.

In the Big 12, there’s also No. 1 Arizona, No. 7 Iowa State and No. 8 Houston. KU will face each of those three teams at some point this month, Arizona both on the road and at home, Iowa State on the road, and Houston at home. KU has already defeated Iowa State this season at home.
KU does expect to have freshman Darryn Peterson available for Monday’s game against Texas Tech, despite the star talent experiencing cramping that led to him missing most of the second half of the win against BYU at home. That’ll do a lot for the Jayhawks’ chances away from home against the Red Raiders. However, winning in Lubbock, Texas, is no easy task.
