Dmitry Tursunov advises Holger Rune to emulate Novak Djokovic

by

Holger Rune's mother – Aneke – has been highly critical of the ATP after her son suffered a serious Achilles tendon injury in Stockholm last week. The diagnosis was the worst possible and the former world number 4 has already undergone surgery, but he will still have to be out of the professional tour for several months.

According to Aneke's opinion, the ATP calendar is too long and was one of the factors that caused the terrible injury of the young Danish star. Many players have complained that they play too much during the year and do not have enough time to recover, subjecting their bodies to excessive stress that is often a source of injury.

Tursunov advises Rune

Interviewed by a Russian media before the last Masters 1000 of the season in Paris, former Russian ace Dmitry Tursunov shared his honest opinion on this subject by stating that players should learn to better manage their schedule: "Novak Djokovic recently announced that he will not be present at the Paris Masters 1000. He has not been banned from the ATP tour, although he will probably receive a fine. Maybe he won't have that economic bonus at the end of the year, but no one really forces players to participate in certain tournaments. Maybe Rune should have made certain arguments too."

Although he has only played 12 tournaments this season, Nole still qualified for the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin as number 3 in the Race. The Serbian legend – who lifted just one trophy in 2025 in Geneva – has been particularly consistent especially in Grand Slam tournaments, having reached the semifinals in all the Majors showing that he still knows how to raise the level when he needs to.

The former world No.1 has understood that he needs to preserve his body at this stage of his career, but that doesn't stop him from being effective in the most prestigious events on the calendar. An approach that perhaps should also be imitated by younger players.
