Notre Dame had its second off-week of the season this past weekend, and unlike a few of the past weeks in college football, there weren’t many upsets of the top teams, but it did move up a spot in the US LBM Coaches Poll.
Following the action on Saturday, ESPN had updated its projected College Football Playoff field and has the Irish barely in. They’re predicted to be the No. 12 seed and that would match them up against No. 5 seed Georgia in a rematch of the quarterfinals of last year.

The difference is that instead of a neutral site, this game would be played in Athen’s during the first-round, which would be a much more difficult venue for Notre Dame to play in. The Bulldogs have taken a loss at home this fall, but it was just a 3-point game to Alabama. They just defeated previous Ole Miss on Oct. 18th, as they also had an off-week.
Heather Dinich comprised this list and said that while she still thinks the Irish are on the bubble, their fate could go either way. She said that “if the playoff were today, tote Dame would be bumped out to make room for the fifth-highest-ranked conference champion, which is guaranteed a spot in the 12-team field.”
That team would be Memphis, so it looks like the Irish still would need some help, even if this projection has them in the field.
