The Timberwolves are one of the most inconsistent teams in the league and guard Donte DiVincenzo has tried to pinpoint his teamβs issues.
The perfect example came this week when Minnesota took down defending champs Oklahoma City, then went on to win two more games against the Bucks and the Knicks.
But things took a turn when they went down to the 10-19 Nets.
DiVincenzo tried to explain why itβs hard for the Wolves to keep their βidentityβ of a championship level team for every game.
βI truly donβt know, like we canβt have these peaks and valleys, like itβs frustrating,β DiVincenzo said, via Wolves reporter Andrew Dukowitz. βYou give them credit, no disrespect to the opponent but itβs a team we are supposed to come in and handle business, and do what weβre supposed to doβ¦ they played with more energy, but thatβs the type of team that they are, but they are that. We have spurts that thatβs what we can do but itβs not necessarily who we are, but thatβs who we need to become. So we canβt get too low on this but we have to address itβ¦ we have to hold that, we canβt just go off against OKC then come in against Brooklyn and just get punked. So we have to look ourselves in the mirror.β
He was also askedΒ what seems to be different for this team in correcting the βenergyβ problems versus other teams he has played for.
βWe have it in usβ¦ what they [Brooklyn] are is a hard playing team, and if they donβt play hard youβll see they get blown out,β he said. βWe have talent up and down the roster where we can come in and win some games based off of talent and shot making. If we have that and weβre playing hard, this is a game weβre supposed to come in and handle business by 15, 20 pointsβ¦ we canβt just look at the season like itβs a failure but we have to address it for what it is and we have to become what we know we can, we canβt rely on talentβ¦ every night the energy has to be there, every night the competitive spirit has to be there, we canβt be up and down on a night to night basis.β
Right now, the Wolves are 20-12 and sixth seed in the East.
