Jan. 6—MITCHELL — Dakota Wesleyan University junior guards Randy Rosenquist Jr. and Shalayne Nagel have been named Great Plains Athletic Conference men’s and women’s basketball defensive players of the week, respectively, the conference announced Monday.
Rosenquist, a North Sioux City native, grabbed 14 total rebounds, had 12 assists, nine steals, and a block in two wins for the Tiger men (8-8, 3-5 GPAC) last week. He recorded eight assists, a career-high seven steals and six rebounds against Bismarck State (N.D.) on Dec. 29 and led DWU with eight rebounds in a win against Midland on Jan. 3.

Through 16 games, Rosenquist is the GPAC’s leader in total steals (48) and steals per game at 3.2, with four games of at least five steals. The 6-foot guard is also tied for fourth in the conference in rebounds per game at 6.7 while averaging 13.5 points and 3.7 assists per game this season. This is Rosenquist’s second GPAC defensive player of the week honor in the 2025-26 season.
Nagel, a Wagner product, was a force in the paint for the No. 10-ranked Tiger women (11-4, 7-2 GPAC) in both wins last week, recording a season-high three blocks with three rebounds and two steals against Northwestern (Iowa) on Dec. 30. She also added six rebounds, five assists and two steals to her tally in a win at Midland on Saturday, Jan. 3.
Nagel is averaging 9.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.9 steals per contest through 15 games. She’s the second Tiger on the women’s side to win the weekly defensive honor this season, joining Avery Broughton on Dec. 1.
DWU hosts Doane (Neb.) in a doubleheader on Wednesday, Jan. 7, at the Corn Palace. Tiger women tip-off at 6 p.m. with the men to follow at 7:45 p.m.
