Eagles trade for another cornerback, acquire former All-Pro Jaire Alexander from Ravens

Three days after trading for New York Jets cornerback Michael Carter II, the Philadelphia Eagles acquired another corner in a deal with another AFC team.

The Eagles sent a 2026 sixth-round pick to the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for two-time All-Pro Jaire Alexander and a 2027 seventh-round pick, the team announced Saturday.

Alexander signed a one-year, $4 million deal with the Ravens in June. At the time, it was reported he could earn up to $2 million more in incentives, but he played in only two games for Baltimore this season.

Injuries have riddled Alexander’s career, but he’s emerged as a healthy scratch this season, most recently on Thursday night during the Ravens’ Week 9 win over the Miami Dolphins.

His only two appearances came in Week 1 and Week 5. According to PFF, Alexander scattered 61 defensive snaps across those outings, both losses in which Baltimore conceded more than 40 points. He allowed three receptions for 83 yards in a season-opening setback to the Buffalo Bills and two more catches for 33 yards in an Oct. 5 defeat to the Houston Texans, per PFF.

Now he’ll try to revive his career with the Eagles. Philadelphia has a bye this week, but next week it will make the trip to Green Bay to face the Packers, with whom Alexander started his career.

The Packers released Alexander on June 9. That marked the end of his seven-season run in Green Bay, a stretch that included a pair of second-team All-Pro and Pro Bowl nods: one in 2020 and another in 2022.

Alexander was taken by the Packers with the 18th overall pick in the 2018 draft. At his best, and healthiest, he earned the reputation as one of the top corners in the NFL. But it’s impossible to live up to that reputation when injuries get in the way, and, unfortunately for Alexander, they did just that.

Alexander entered the 2025 campaign having played 16-plus games in just one of the previous four seasons.

In 2021, a shoulder injury limited him to four appearances. In 2023, he played in just seven games because of back and shoulder issues. It was more of the same in 2024, with Alexander taking the field in only seven games due to a knee problem.

He signed a four-year, $84 million extension with the Packers in 2022. That deal set Alexander up to make more than $16 million in 2025. Green Bay reportedly offered him a restructured deal in May, one that would have resulted in a pay cut, but that never got done, and the Packers ended up releasing Alexander.

He joins an Eagles team in need of help in the secondary. General manager Howie Roseman brought aboard Carter earlier in the week, sending wide receiver John Metchie to the Jets. The teams also swapped 2027 draft picks.

After leading the NFL in pass defense last season, the defending Super Bowl champion Eagles are 18th in that department this time around.

They like what they have in second-year corners Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean, but, with DeJean mostly playing nickel, they’ve been on the hunt for elevated play at the No. 2 outside corner spot opposite of Mitchell.

While Carter is known for his work in the slot, he and Alexander give Philadelphia depth and more options at the position.
