Ed Carpenter Racing announced several changes to its organization ahead of the 2026 season in the IndyCar Series.
Among the notable alterations to the team, which is set to contest its 15th campaign in North America’s premier open-wheel championship, is Matt Barnes being promoted to Vice President of Competition following extended runs as a race engineer and chief engineer. He carries 23 years of experience within the sport, and was one of the team’s 10 original hires.

With Barnes assuming management of the engineering department, Quentin Montigaud has been promoted to Race Engineer of the No. 20 Chevrolet driven by Alexander Rossi. An engineering career that began in Formula E nine years ago, the Frenchman spent the entirety of his IndyCar tenure with ECR, most recently as Performance Engineer on the No. 20 entry.
Pete Craik remains Race Engineer for Christian Rasmussen in the No. 21 Chevrolet. An Aussie with 19 years of experience across Supercars, IndyCar and NASCAR, he has led one of ECR’s two entries in the same role for the past seven years; he has been paired with Rasmussen since his first race in early 2024.
Another key gain of personnel for ECR is the addition of Robert Gue, who will lean on his 23 years of experience in motorsports to lead development efforts as the team’s Senior Project Engineer. Gue’s previous stops include Arrow McLaren and most recently, PREMA.

The organization also confirmed the addition of Chase Campbell as a full-time strength and conditioning coach. He spent the last 10 years working with collegiate and professional athletes, and leads regular workouts for crew members of both ECR entries. Campbell also oversees daily pit stop practice for both crews and serves as the team’s Pit Stop Coach. Additionally, he has taken on the role of Strength and Conditioning Coach for team Rasmussen and Rossi, along with team co-owner/driver Ed Carpenter.
Derek Davidson has joined the competition management portion of ECR, working alongside Team President Tim Broyles. A former driver in USAC, Davidson has created a tenured IndyCar career over the past 20 years as a fabricator, mechanic, and crew chief, with his last decade primarily spent in team management roles.
Ted Gelov, who joined the team ahead of the 2025 season, will continue to guide ECR. In addition to his responsibilities as a co-owner and driver for the Indianapolis 500, Carpenter continues to serve as CEO.
