Golf fans were not thrilled when Phil Mickelson joined LIV Golf. The legend of this sport has been building his career on the PGA Tour for years and was an important figure in the most prestigious tournament, but the offer he received from LIV Golf was difficult to accept.
Phil Mickelson thus became one of the most controversial figures in the world of golf, and three years after his decision, he is still part of the discussions surrounding that league.
Eddie Pepperell, the famous golfer, said on The Chipping Forecast that Phil probably made a mistake in his decision and maybe he should have taken a different route, which was to become a commentator.
"One thing I've always loved about cricket is the contributions from the now former players – the Ricky Pontings, I mean, the Shane Warnes, along with Mike Atherton, Nasser Hussein, Stuart Broad, Alistair [Cook].
These are greats, and they're greats not long ago. And I think one of the most unfortunate things for golf is that it doesn't have that feature of the commentary teams that cover the game."- Eddie said.
Tiger Woods
The public is wondering what direction Tiger Woods' career will take, as he enters his later years, with some wondering if he will ever return to the golf course.
Pepperell went on to add that Tiger Woods is also a golfer who knows this sport to the core, and that if he were to become a commentator, it would be a big deal for everyone.
"And Tiger has the insight to provide us all with hours of endless entertainment and fascination. It's just getting them in the position where they can do it and make it accessible for us all.
And I just would love more guys, not like Tiger because he maybe would never do it, but maybe he would with the right encouragement and the right incentives to go on CBS or Golf Channel or whatever it might be."
Phil Mickelson has already made his decision and seems to be standing firmly behind it. Whether he will become a commentator in the future is difficult to say now.
