Elina Svitolina has closed the curtain on her 2025 campaign.

Citing the need to recharge mentally and emotionally and regain her competitive identity, Svitolina says she will not play again this season.

“I haven’t been feeling like myself lately. I’m not in the right emotional space, and I don’t feel ready to play, so I am therefore ending the season here,” Svitolina posted on Instagram.

“Over the years, I’ve learned that this sport isn’t about money, fame, or rankings—it’s about being ready to fight and to give your all. Right now, I’m simply not at the level mentally or emotionally to do that.

“Not every day has to be productive, strong, or full of energy. Some days are heavy—and that doesn’t make me weak. It just means I’m human and need time to rest, to feel, to breathe and to just be.”

The 31-year-old Svitolina, who fell to Anna Bondar in the US Open first round after bowing to Barbora Krejcikova in the Cincinnati first round, suffered a heart-breaking three-set loss to Jasmine Paolini in Billie Jean King Cup semifinal play last weekend. Svitolina was within two games of sending Ukraine into the final before falling to Paolini.

World No. 13 Svitolina posted a 35-14 record in 2025, including winning the Rouen title on red clay last April.
