Texas A&M’s 2027 recruiting class is on track to finish as the No. 1-ranked cycle. Even after the Aggies’ 10-3 loss to Miami in the first round of the College Football Playoff, head coach Mike Elko and his staff landed a commitment from four-star defensive lineman Myels Smith less than an hour before the game ended.
Currently ranked No. 2 in 247Sports’ 2027 recruiting rankings, another name has emerged as a potential favorite to land in College Station, as four-star offensive tackle Brian Swanson, out of South Oak Cliff, is coming off what many consider an elite season during his 2024 junior campaign.

Ranked as the No. 19 offensive tackle prospect in the 2027 class, Rivals insider Sam Spiegelman reported that Oklahoma, Texas, and Texas A&M are the three current favorites to land the standout pass protector, while all are in “heavy pursuit” leading into the new year, which will continue to heat up in the spring/summer.
Right now, all three programs are keeping pace, and the news that Texas A&M offensive line coach Adam Cushing will likely stay with the program and not follow Pat Fitzgerald to Michigan State is good news for the Aggies’ recruiting focus in the trenches, which could include Swanson. According to Spiegelman, Cushing and the Aggies are gaining significant ground.
“Coach (Adam) Cushing has been talking to me a lot lately. I’m talking to Coach D-Mac (Deveonte Mackey) every day and I have a great relationship with Coach Wis (Wisly Desire) also,” Swanson said. “I love the versatility over there.”
Four-star offensive tackle DaMarrion Johnson is the lone offensive tackle commit in the 2027 cycle, and with Holmon Wiggins taking over as the new offensive coordinator, Texas A&M’s future offenses will still be focused on establishing the run and the play-action game, which requires steady tackle play.
