Ellen Walshe & Eoin Corby Rewrite Irish Record Books In Dublin
Ellen Walshe and Eoin Corby rewrote the record books on day two of the Irish Winter Championships in Dublin.
Walshe, who won the 200 fly at the short-course Europeans that wrapped up last weekend in Poland, downed the 200 free mark in prelims, posting 1:55.23 as she took  0.67 off Victoria Catterson’s 2023 record of 1:55.90.
She returned to the Sport Ireland National Aquatic Centre for the finals where she sliced a further 1.5secs to stop the clock at 1:53.72 with Walshe now owning the long and short-course records in the 200 free.
It was Walshe’s second win of the weekend having topped the podium in the 100m freestyle on Friday. Grace Davison was second in 1:56.32 with Danielle Farrell third in 1:57.58.

Having set an Irish record of 2:05.89 in the semi-final of the 200m breaststroke at the European Championships last week, Corby lowered the time to 2:05.76 in the final in Dublin.
With that, he claimed his second win of the weekend having won 100m gold on Friday. Matthew Hand was second in 2:14.67 with Lachey Reed third in 2:15.45.
Fresh from his Irish 200IM record and title on Friday, John Shortt added two more golds to his bulging bag of silverware.
Shortt dominated the 100 back to take the win in 50.25, 0.15 off his Irish record set en-route to seventh in the continental final in Poland. Paddy Johnston (53.23) and Neddie Irwin (53.43) made it a Limerick sweep of the podium.
The 18-year-old returned for the 200 free where he edged teammate Cormac Rynn in 1:46.07 to 1:46.86 with Adam Colgan third in 1:48.08.
Lottie Cullen headed the women’s 100 back in 57.61 in a replica of the 50 back podium with Maria Godden (58.58) and Jena Macdougald (59.68).
