Elliott Sadler To Make SMART Modified Tour Start At South Boston Speedway

by

EMPORIA, Va. – Former NASCAR winner Elliott Sadler is returning to his racing roots next month. Elliott will pilot the No. 16VA Pace-O-Matic Modified for Sadler-Stanley Racing to make his SMART Modified Tour debut in the $20,000 to win King of the Modifieds at South Boston Speedway on March 20-21.

Elliott was the 1995 South Boston Speedway Late Model champion and has a grandstand named in his honor at the historic Virginia short track. Elliott used his success at South Boston Speedway to catapult him to a long and successful NASCAR career, which included 17 wins in NASCAR’s National Series, which saw him named as the Most Popular Driver by the fans, four times. Elliott is one of only 36 racers in history to have won races in all of NASCAR’s top-three National Series divisions.

The race will mark the third of the SMART Modified Tour season.

“Preparing for this race has brought back some fond memories I have from the early days of my racing career,” Elliott said. “The competition I raced against every weekend at South Boston Speedway was the best in the country, and it prepared me as I moved up the ladder. I am looking forward to carrying my old number and colors at a place that means so much to me.”

Sadler-Stanley Racing co-owner Hermie Sadler said this is something he wasn’t sure he would ever see happen – but he can’t wait to see Elliott climb back behind the wheel.

“Elliott had a wonderful career and has been content in his retirement from racing, so I am so honored and thrilled he has agreed to come run this race,” Hermie Sadler said. “Let’s pack the house on March 21st at South Boston Speedway to cheer on Elliott and the entire Pace-O-Matic team in the No. 16VA.”
