Bristol Bears have signed Cardiff and Wales scrum-half Ellis Bevan on a four-week loan.
The 25-year-old, who has won six caps for his country, will provide cover during the Prem Rugby Cup period with Harry Randall and Max Pepper out injured and Oscar Lennon recalled by Hartpury for their Champ match with Ealing.
Bevan made his Wales debut in June 2024 against South Africa and won his last three caps during last year’s autumn internationals.
Also re-joining the club on a short-term deal for the Prem Rugby Cup period is back Mat Protheroe.
The 29-year-old – who can play at full-back or on the wing – played 35 times for the Bears before leaving in 2020 and going on to represent Ospreys and Hartpury.
“We were in need of some cover at scrum-half, so being able to bring in a player of Ellis’ calibre and international experience is a boost,” Bristol director of rugby Pat Lam said., external
“We’re grateful to Cardiff for their support in approving Ellis’ loan, with their coaches keen to get some minutes into him ahead of their return to URC action at the end of November.
“We’re also pleased to be welcoming Mat Protheroe back into the group.
“He’s a guy who understands ‘The Bears Way’ and it’s great to be able to give him an opportunity over the next few weeks.”
