In recent years, Emma Raducanu has become a big name in the world of tennis and a recognizable face of the sports scene. Her career successes are the main reason for this. However, Raducanu herself was once a little girl who dreamed of being on the big stage and achieving incredible success.
In an interview with Tennis365, the young British woman expressed her delight at the reactions of the public and the fact that more and more girls in Britain are starting to train in tennis precisely because of her.
Just as expected, Raducanu points out that her biggest inspiration is younger kids.
“It’s funny to think that I have had that impact,” said Raducanu.
“It’s really nice to be reminded, you know, that you’re inspiring younger kids to play. And it’s very easy to lose sight of that kind of thing because you get so absorbed in your own world.
But that is that is a really big achievement for me (inspiring young kids) and it’s why I want to keep a really good example on the court, a good demeanour."
Role model
Although on the one hand Emma is proud to be a role model for the younger generations, on the other hand she is aware that she must always be careful about how she behaves, since she does not want to be a bad example for the younger ones.
Her control is probably most visible on the tennis courts, when Raducanu tries to stay calm even when things are not going her way.
The 22-year-old tennis player has had many ups and downs in the last few years, but she seems to always manage to stay composed and try to improve her self-image.
“I know some other players maybe sometimes lash out or lose their temper, and it’s inevitable time to time you don’t feel great, and you maybe step up.
But I remind myself always to try and keep as best possible face, because you never know who’s watching, and you don’t want to, you know, set bad examples for the younger generation.”
