Emma Raducanu reveals the virus she caught in Cluj-Napoca came with some lingering after-effects as she is still trying to fully recover from the issue.
In the first week of February, Raducanu competed at the WTA 250 tournament in Cluj-Napoca. And the Briton's first return to the Transylvania Open since 2021 went pretty well as she ended up making her first final since the 2021 US Open. Unfortunately for the world No. 25, she couldn't do much in the final after being visited by a doctor and losing 6-0 6-2 to Sorana Cirstea.
Two days later, Raducanu kicked off her Doha campaign, only to retire in the first round to Camila Osorio after having her blood pressure and vitals checked. A week later, the 2021 US Open champion played out her Dubai first-round match, but was upset by Antonia Ruzic in three sets.
At the start of this week, it was officially confirmed that Raducanu left Nike to join UNIQLO. Speaking with the media following the news announcement, the former world No. 10 was asked about her recent health struggles.
Raducanu: I had really long effects for the last three weeks… I've been trying to clear them
"In Cluj, I picked up like a virus, I think, at the start of the tournament. So I was dealing with that and the after-effects… I had really long effects for the last three weeks. I’ve been trying to clear them. So the Middle East trip was very difficult for me," the 23-year-old explained.
Raducanu's health may not have been the best lately, but her Sunshine Double participation isn't a question mark.
"I’m getting ready for Indian Wells and just trying to get back to full health. And I still have a bit of time, so I’m just looking forward to doing my best to be ready for that," she added.
The Indian Wells tournament starts on March 4 so Raducanu still has a week to recover.
