Former India opener Aakash Chopra exposes England’s weakest point ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Chopra has a doubt over England’s possible performance in the tournament, explaining the possible issues that could harm the team during the title race.
Aakash Chopra said that the bowling line-up of England is not so much organised in comparison to their batting unit. More than the batting orientation, it is the English bowling unit that forced the former Indian cricketer to put a question mark on their performances during the T20 World Cup.
Jofra Archer can be a boomerang for the England cricket team
Speaking in this YouTube channel video, Chopra said that pace bowling can trouble the England cricket team a lot during the tournament, mostly because of Jofra Archer. Archer is a proven fast bowler who can pick up wickets immediately if he can remain in form, which will be great for the team. But Aakash questions over the Pacers’ inconsistency. He opined that an out-of-form Archer can prove devastating for the team.

“The bowling unit as a whole is okay, okay. It doesn’t give you a lot of confidence. Josh Tongue, T20 career—okay, okay. Jamie Overton is good, but I don’t know. Adil Rashid, maybe he is past his prime, but I find him a very good bowler”, Chopra said in his YouTube video.
“Jofra Archer, if he is hot, he is super hot, but when he is cold, he is super cold. So that could become a cause for concern.”
Chopra questions the bowling combination of England as well
Jofra Archer, Josh Tongue, Luke Wood, Jamie Overton, and Sam Curran are the seamers in England’s T20 World Cup 2026 squad. For the spin bowling duties, they have chosen Adil Rashid, Rehan Ahmed, Liam Dawson, Will Jacks, and Jacob Bethell for the high-pressure assignment. Apart from Rashid and Ahmed, the remaining three are mainly batting all-rounders who can chip in some overs with the ball.
Chopra shed light on England’s batting order as well. He believes that apart from Harry Brook and the openers, most of the batters may have to perform out of their actual position, which can have a negative effect on the performance of the team.
Unorganised batting order
“Except for Harry Brook and the openers, it seems like everyone is playing out of position. So that could be a potential banana skin or a weakness. So that could definitely be a problem with this team. Spin bowling is also okay, okay. The bowling department in total is not that great. So England’s problem could be their bowling,” Aakash Chopra explained.
England are placed in Group C in the T20 World Cup 2026 along with the West Indies, Nepal, Scotland, and Italy. Chopra also stated that the England cricket team can face serious challenges after the group stage, during the round of eight.
