The Enid football program has its next head coach.
Former Drumright coach Chris Elerick is set to take over, Enid Public Schools announced Monday on social media. Elerick will officially assume the role on Feb. 2 and will also serve as the school’s assistant athletic director.

“On behalf of the Enid Athletics I want to welcome Coach Elerick to the team,” Enid athletic director Robb Mills said in the release. “He will bring a lot of success, experience, and enthusiasm to Plainsmen football. I am excited for him to get started building for the future.”
Elerick replaces former coach Brad Cornelsen, who stepped down following a 0-10 season in his lone year.
A veteran of nearly three decades in Oklahoma high school football, Elerick began his coaching career in 1997 at Yale. He then spent 15 seasons as Stroud’s head coach starting in 2007 before taking over at Drumright in 2023. Elerick also served as Drumright’s athletic director while in the role.

He owns a 216-88 career record as a head coach.
“I want to give a big thank you to the leadership and board of Enid schools for trusting me with this job,” Elerick said in the post. “I am excited about the opportunity and ready to go to work with our athletes, our staff, and the community as a whole.”
