Ronda Rousey stirred up some serious heat after appearing on Bert Kreischer’s podcast and taking a few jabs at UFC commentator and martial arts expert Joe Rogan.
During the show, Kreischer revealed he had texted Rogan to ask how he could beat Rousey in a fight. Rousey’s response wasn’t exactly respectful. She dismissed Rogan’s credentials entirely and said his martial arts background didn’t qualify him to speak on fighting. When Kreischer mentioned Rogan’s taekwondo experience, Rousey hit back with another shot.
“Taekwondo is not fighting,” she said. “He wouldn’t know. He’s not an expert. He’s a fan with an audience. He never fought.”
That didn’t sit well with former WCW President Eric Bischoff, who responded with a sharp tweet referencing Rousey’s career-defining loss.
“Neither is judo. Ask Holly Holm.”
The jab was a not-so-subtle reminder of Rousey’s 2015 knockout loss to Holm—her first ever in the UFC. When asked about the tweet during his podcast, Bischoff doubled down on the message but added some context.
“I just felt like stirring it up just a little bit,” Bischoff admitted. “Of course, we know Holly Holm made an appearance at the first Real American Freestyle, but most MMA fans would remember that once upon a time, Ronda Rousey felt like an unstoppable monster… and then she ran into a buzzsaw named Holly Holm, and that was all she wrote.”
Still, Bischoff insisted that his comment wasn’t rooted in personal animosity. He actually respects Rousey’s achievements—but her swipe at Rogan struck a nerve.
“Look, and I respect Ronda Rousey. I mean, she’s an amazing athlete. She’s accomplished great things… but I guess maybe I was a little oversensitive to the statement.”
Bischoff used the moment to shine a light on the fact that all martial arts disciplines—judo, wrestling, taekwondo, jiu-jitsu—bring different strengths to the table depending on context. He said dismissing one discipline isn’t fair when you could turn the same logic back on others.
“You could also say judo is not really a fighting skill… It was more of a way just to stir up some [controversy] and have some fun. And I wanted to help get some attention on Holly Holm because she’s part of Real American Freestyle.”
Eric Bischoff didn’t just throw a jab—he made a point. In his view, Ronda Rousey’s attempt to downplay Rogan’s background opens her up to the same kind of criticism. And when your own fighting background includes a headkick knockout heard around the world, it might not be the best time to throw stones.
