The Brewers made a number of roster moves for their pitching staff on Wednesday, signing veteran right-hander Erick Fedde to a one-year deal and placing All-Star closer Trevor Megill on the 15-day injured list with a right flexor strain (retroactive to Monday).
Right-hander Logan Henderson, out since Aug. 4 with a right flexor tendon strain, was also transferred to the 60-day IL, ending his regular season.
The loss of Megill will be tough for Milwaukee to absorb. The 31-year-old has mostly been nails in the ninth inning, pitching to a 2.54 ERA and tied for second in the Majors with 30 saves, though he’s blown three of his last four save chances. His 99.2 mph average fastball velocity ranks in the 98th percentile in MLB, and his 30.7% strikeout rate is in the 91st percentile.
The Brewers will be Fedde’s third team of the season, after he went 4-12 with a 5.76 ERA in 25 games (24 starts) with the Cardinals and Braves.
