WWEβs deal with ESPN has led to them debuting the Wrestlepalooza Premium Live Event. While WWE has a solid event calendar, ESPN executives have addressed potentially adding more PLEs in the future.
While speaking during the WWE-ESPN media call, an ESPN executive was asked if the company might add new WWE Premium Live Events to the schedule, such as in December when only Saturday Night Main Event is currently planned on Peacock.
The executive explained that any additions would come from future scheduling talks with WWE. He said ESPN understood what they were signing up for when they acquired the PLE rights and values them highly.
These events are key to driving ESPNβs direct-to-consumer business. He added that ESPN is excited about WWEβs current PLE lineup and is open to discussions about expanding or evolving the schedule if those opportunities come up.
βI think anything along those lines will bear itself out in just more forward-looking scheduling conversations that we will get into with WWE over time. To put a fine point on the answer, we knew what we were signing up for when we acquired the PLEs, and the PLEs are incredibly valuable. We understand the importance of these shows to help fuel our direct-to-consumer business. Weβre excited about the schedule of events that WWE puts forth for the PLEs, and if there are conversations about evolving that, we are certainly game to do that.β
Right now, ESPN is focused on making the most of WWEβs current Premium Live Events. But company leaders are open to adding more events in the future if talks with WWE head that way. So itβs apparent that fans might not have to wait long to see new major shows added to the WWE calendar.
Would you like to see WWE add brand-new Premium Live Events to its yearly calendarβperhaps in December or in untapped international markets? Sound off in the comments.
