Both the Alabama Crimson Tide and Missouri Tigers have to be feeling pretty confident as they head into their Week 7 SEC football showdown at Faurot Field in Columbia.
Alabama rallied from a 14-7 deficit to score 23 unanswered points in its 30-23 win over the Vanderbilt Commodores in last Saturday’s top 25 showdown at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Ty Simpson had another big game for the Crimson Tide, throwing for 340 yards and two touchdowns on 23-of-31 passes.

The defense forced two Diego Pavia turnovers in the red zone and pitched a second-half shutout. Alabama (4-1 overall, 2-0 SEC) rose three spots to No. 8 in this week’s US LBM Coaches Poll.
The schedule doesn’t get any easier for coach Kalen DeBoer’s team with a trip to Columbia and another top 25 opponent on hand in Missouri (5-0, 1-0). The Tigers are coming off a bye in Week 6 and are ranked No. 14 in the polls, up five spots from last week.
Coach Eli Drinkwitz’s team will be the third straight unbeaten opponent Alabama has faced. Missouri defeated Massachusetts 42-6 in its last game on Sept. 27. The Tigers have outscored their opponents by an average of 30.6 points through five games but have played just two Power Four opponents thus far in Kansas and South Carolina.
The Crimson Tide are slightly favored by oddsmakers, while ESPN Analytics has given its own odds for Saturday’s game. ESPN’s matchup predictor, which offers a prediction model based on its college football power index (FPI) ratings and other variables, gives Alabama a 63.4% chance to win and Missouri a 36.6% chance.

What are ESPN FPI ratings?
ESPN explains:
“The Football Power Index (FPI) is a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team’s performance going forward for the rest of the season. FPI represents how many points above or below average a team is. Projected results are based on 20,000 simulations of the rest of the season using FPI, results to date, and the remaining schedule. Ratings and projections update daily. FPI data from seasons prior to 2019 may not be complete.”
