ESPN shares pick for most impactful Iowa women’s basketball transfer

by

ESPN just unveiled its preseason top 25 rankings for the upcoming women’s college basketball season, where Iowa checked in at No. 20 nationally.

ESPN also shared its pick for the most impactful transfer for each top 25 squad. For Iowa, ESPN selected sophomore guard Chazadi “Chit-Chat” Wright as the Hawkeyes’ most impactful transfer. Wright, a 5-foot-4 guard, transferred in from Georgia Tech this past offseason.

One of seven Georgia Tech defectors after the retirement of coach Nell Fortner, Wright gives the Hawkeyes more quickness at point guard to pair with the perimeter shooting of Kylie Feuerbach and Taylor McCabe. Wright, who ranked second on the Yellow Jackets in assists as a freshman (2.6 per game), gives Iowa another dependable shooter (32.6% on 3-pointers). – Charlie Creme, ESPN

Wright played in 33 games and started 12 during her freshman season with the Yellow Jackets, averaging 7.2 points and 2.2 rebounds per game on 37.1% field goal shooting.

The Hawkeyes also added transfer wing Emely Rodriguez from UCF. As a freshman at UCF, Rodriguez averaged 11.9 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.4 steals per game on 40.9% shooting from the floor and 33.3% shooting from beyond the arc.

Iowa has an exhibition date on Oct. 30 against Ashland scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT and then opens the regular season on Nov. 3 against the Southern Jaguars at 6:30 p.m. CT. Both games will take place at Carver-Hawkeye Arena and will stream on Big Ten Plus (subscription required).
