Eva Lys says she has been silent for too long and that's why she is often exposing the verbal abuse she receives on social media.
This year has been a breakout for Lys, who sensationally made her first Grand Slam round-of-16 at the Australian Open and also broke into the top-100 for the first time in her career with that run. Since then, the 23-year-old German has been steadily improving and now she regularly participates in the main-level tournaments and also sits at a career-high ranking of No. 40 in the world.
On paper, it was a great for the rising German star – exactly the one she was looking for. But still, she is all but immune to being insulted in the worst way possible after defeats.
In an interview with Jannik Schneider of Die Zeit, Lys said that when she first started to deal with angry bettors, she was simply advised to ignore them.
"But it was hushed up for a long time. If you don't talk about it, nothing will ever change," the world No. 40 told Jannik Schneider of Die Zeit.

In the same interview, the 23-year-old also claimed that bettors go as far as to threaten to rape her and her mother.
"After every defeat. A thousand hate messages sent directly to my inbox. Unfortunately, that's everyday life," the rising star said.
