Ex-PFL fighter Karl Moore suspended for USADA anti-doping violation

Karl Moore will be on the sideline at least until a yearlong suspension ends.

Moore, a former PFL and Bellator fighter, has been suspended for a year by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency after he tested positive for several banned substances earlier this year.

According to USADA, Moore, from Northern Ireland, tested positive for recombinant erythropoietin (rEPO), a banned synthetic hormone, in an out-of-competition test in April.

But USADA took the extra step in its sanctioning news release to call Moore out for the reason the organization said he came to test positive for a banned substance to begin with.

“… His reckless conduct — injecting an unlabeled drug that did not belong to him — led to his positive test,” USADA said in its release.

Moore (12-4), 33, is a former Cage Warriors light heavyweight champion. He went 4-1 under the Bellator with three decision wins. After the PFL purchased Bellator, he lost a fight to Corey Anderson under the Bellator banner.

But earlier this year, in his first fight with the PFL in the light heavyweight tournament, he lost a split decision to Antonio Carlos Jr. in May. Out of the bracket early, the PFL cut him loose. Carlos Jr. went on to win the light heavyweight tournament Thursday.

Moore’s yearlong suspension is retroactive to April 9, when his sample was collected.
