There isn’t much that can be said about Conor McGregor that hasn’t already been said.
Sunday, the former UFC fighter continued his years-long spiral with a lengthy proclamation that he once again has seen the light – this time thanks to a hallucinogenic treatment in Mexico.

McGregor said he saw his own death, when it was going to happen, and how it would impact the four children he has with partner Dee Devlin. Then, he said, Jesus descended from heaven and put a crown on his head to save him.
“To God, I am yours,” McGregor posted on social media. “Thank you for bestowing upon me this incredible blessing that I take with great care and absolute seriousness! I live my life per your word and nothing more.”
Earlier this year, McGregor dropped out of a bid to become the next president of Ireland. He couldn’t get support to even get his name on the ballot, so he wasn’t actually in the race. McGregor, taking many pages from right-wing American influencer-turned-political experts and politicians, blamed the tail tuck of his foray into politics on an Irish political system that he said is broken.
McGregor has said he aspires to political office in the near future and has taken up a nationalistic right-wing rallying cry similar to Donald Trump in that pursuit. Like Trump, McGregor has multiple sexual assault accusations against him, and like Trump, a ruling against him for one, too.

A year ago, McGregor was found liable for the 2018 sexual assault of Nikita Hand in a Dublin hotel. Then McGregor lost his appeal to have the decision reversed. After that, McGregor made a plea to his countrywomen and countrymen to stand with him in the wake of the mountain of civil and criminal charges against him over the years, and the civil rape and sexual assault trial that came home to roost. A poll earlier this year found that just 7% of people said they would vote for McGregor to be president of Ireland.
McGregor has continued to say he will make a UFC return and reportedly had his first drug test back in the testing pool. He hasn’t fought since a second straight loss to Dustin Poirier in mid-2021. He has continually threatened to return, but there is very little confidence left among MMA observers that he’ll return to the UFC. He also is part-owner of the BKFC and his appearances at those events are near-constant.
