Ex-WWE Star Braun Stroman Provides Big Update on Pro Wrestling Career

by

Braun Strowman is shifting his focus away from the ring and toward the silver screen. The former WWE Universal Champion, real name Adam Scherr, recently revealed he’s embracing the acting world full-time—and wrestling might now be in his rearview mirror.

During an interview with Collider to promote his upcoming role in Deathgasm 2: Goremageddon, Strowman opened up about filming intense scenes with extras who were also independent pro wrestlers. He gave them credit for taking the bumps and putting their bodies on the line for the shot—but he also dropped a major update about his own wrestling career.

“Oh, I gotta give it to the extras, the ones that gave their bodies up for me, because in my scene, I’m rough with these guys, and they’re all pro wrestlers and stuff on their side jobs and stuff. So they were all unbelievably willing to give their bodies up to me for this film.”

He went on to describe how the extras encouraged him to lay in the shots harder, but that’s when Strowman made it clear he’s done with that lifestyle—for now.

“They were like, ‘Lay it in harder.’ I was like, ‘No, no…’ In our business, too, like the wrestling business side of things — I say ‘our business,’ but I’m semi-retired from wrestling now, too, because I want to be an actor.”

Strowman also reflected on his early days in the business, when he was the guy willing to take any bump or opportunity just to get noticed. That same energy, he says, now drives the extras on set who hope to catch a break.

“I was that kid at one point. I was doing that. I was the one going, ‘I’ll do it. I’ll eat that. I’ll go here. I’ll do that.’ That’s what gave me the opportunity to get to where I am in life.”

“So those are a lot of the unsung heroes, too, that are behind the scenes, that no one ever knows about, and they never get credit for. So that’s big for me.”

Strowman was released by WWE on May 2 and has since been involved in projects outside the wrestling world. While fans still hope to see him back in the ring, it sounds like he’s ready to trade body slams for blockbuster scripts.
