The current system of the PGA Tour does not cause particularly positive reactions neither in the public nor among golfers.
PGA Tour golfer Robert Garrigus is one of those who isn't particularly thrilled with the current system. Fans remember this golfer with nostalgia, and he gained the most attention when he used marijuana for knee and back pain, which was followed by a suspension.
In the last two years, this experienced golfer has not been particularly brilliant, but he is still ready to comment on the happenings on the golf scene.
Namely, the PGA has announced the addition of a ninth signature event to the calendar for the coming year.
The experienced golfer emphasized Jordan Spieth, who received as many as five invitations to signature events on the PGA Tour this year.
Garrigus is ready to play with Spieth and with a win attract the attention of the leader of the prestigious tour, and thus earn an invitation next year.
"What's happening to our Tour," Garrigus said, as quoted by Golf Magic.
"So does that mean one more sponsor invite for Jordan Spieth?" added Garrigus.
"Tell Spieth I’ll play him for any amount he wants. I win, I get his five invites to the signature events."
James Hahn reacts
It is important to note that Garrigus spoke with PGA professional James Hahn. He pointed out that the current system is far from what the PGA Tour needs.
Most are not thrilled with the signature events that clearly did not meet the expectations of the public or golfers.
He believes that leaders should have listened to the public's reactions since it could have had a significant impact on golfers' careers.
"They put some (crap) together and they wait for someone to call out their BS and change it the following year," said Hahn.
"They just put it together and work it out as the problems come."
I called out (former COO) Andy Pazder in a meeting that sending out a single alone in a signature event was a bad look I said this before these signature events started."
