Now 14-0, Farid Basharat says Chris Gutierrez ‘wants to survive more than win’
UFC 320 winner Farid Basharat spoke to MMA Junkie and reporters post-fight after his unanimous decision victory over Chris Gutierrez
LAS VEGAS – Farid Basharat met with MMA Junkie and other media members Saturday after his win over Chris Gutierrez at UFC 320.
Basharat (14-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC) said his game plan against Gutierrez (22-6-2 MMA, 10-4-1 UFC) on the prelims at T-Mobile Arena went just about perfectly according to the game plan.
“Chris Gutierrez is not so easy to fight and get much off,” Basharat said. “He’s a survival first type of fighter. He almost wants to survive more than he wants to win sometimes. If you look at all of his 14 UFC fights, I would definitely say nobody’s damaged him as much as I damaged him tonight.”
Basharat said the game plan was to get out front with his grappling and his standup and show the kind of performance that will put some fear into future bantamweight opponents.
“I think I put a statement for the rest of the division. I think it was a good, well-rounded, solid performance. I think the rest of the bantamweights are going to look at me and go, ‘Where’s this guy’s weaknesses?’ … I think I put the division on notice.”
