With Caitlin Clark sidelined by a lingering groin injury, center Aliyah Boston has anchored the Fever at both ends of the floor, a fact coach Stephanie White highlighted when asked about Boston’s latest accolade.
“She’s been great. She really has been our rock, she’s been our backbone,” White said. “We’ve played through her and she’s been very consistent for us—not just scoring the basketball but being a facilitator, locking down on the defensive end, being a high-level communicator on the defensive end as well.”
“She’s been outstanding and she’s really continued to grow throughout the course of the season.”

White comments come after Boston was awarded the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for Week 9 of the season, marking the third time she’s claimed the award in her young WNBA career.

Now in her first season back at the helm since 2016 (previously coached the Fever from 2015-16), White has overseen a dramatic turnaround.

The Fever had a rocky start to the season, going 2-4 in May before trading wins and losses throughout June and most of July.
However, thanks to White’s guidance, Boston’s consistency, and the veteran leadership of Kelsey Mitchell, Sophie Cunningham and Natasha Howard, the Fever have won five straight, going 8-2 (losing twice to the New York Liberty) in their last 10 games.
On July 1, Indiana won its first-ever Commissioner’s Cup, knocking out the top-ranked Minnesota Lynx 74-59, without Clark.

With the Eastern playoff field crowded—New York, Atlanta Dream and Washington Mystics all only a handful of games apart—Boston’s form could tip the balance come September.
After Tuesday’s test against the Sparks, the Fever head back out on the road against the Mercury before a three-game home stretch at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, featuring pivotal matchups versus the Wings, Mystics and Chicago Sky.
