Even minus superstar point guard Caitlin Clark and a series of other players that suffered season-ending injuries, the Indiana Fever continue to show that they’re a force to be reckoned with.
The sixth-seeded Fever bounced No. 3 seed Atlanta in a first-round surprise for the franchise’s first playoff series victory since 2015. Now, Indiana is up 1-0 over Las Vegas in their best-of-five WNBA semifinals series after downing the Aces on Sunday, 89-73.

Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell led the way with 34 points, setting a WNBA record in the process. Mitchell’s 34 points were the most ever by any player in WNBA history in their first career semifinal game. The 5-foot-8 guard enjoyed a 12-for-23 shooting day, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range.
But, like most of its run without Clark, the pundits counted the Fever out. And Fever fans held on to those receipts.
After Indiana picked up the big Game 1 win, Fever fans were there to remind the world that ESPN’s Elle Duncan, Andraya Carter and Chiney Ogwumike all picked the Aces.
That trio certainly wasn’t alone in their thinking, but, after an incredibly trying season on the injury front, Fever fans deserve the opportunity to celebrate this team and to poke a little fun at the naysayers in the process.
