Fever sign Odyssey Sims to second 7-day contract: ‘I’m continuing to learn… and I have to learn fast’

The Indiana Fever have signed Odyssey Sims to a second seven-day contract, the team announced Sunday.

Sims, a 5-8 point guard, signed her initial seven-day hardship contract last week to fill the vacancy left by Caitlin Clark, who has been out since July 15 with a right groin injury, and season-ending injuries to point guards Aari McDonald and Sydney Colson.

The 32-year old was held scoreless in her Fever debut vs. the Dallas Wings on Tuesday, but was a key contributor vs. the Washington Mystics three nights later, registering 11 points, two rebounds and three assists with only one turnover in 26 minutes.

Sims will start Sunday’s game vs. the Connecticut Sun, moving into the lineup in place of Lexie Hull.

Coach Stephanie White said there were “a lot of nerves” for Sims in her first game, but she looked “really good” in practice and it carried over to Friday. “She was much more aggressive to the rim and much more assertive on both ends of the floor, including in communication,” White continued. “And that’s what we’ll continue to need from her.”

Sims signed with Dallas midseason in 2024 on a hardship contract, then after being released by the Wings, signed with the Los Angeles Sparks. She’s played for six teams during her 12-year career, with additional stops in Los Angeles, Dallas and Minnesota.

Sims said she’s giving herself grace as she gets up to speed, pointing out she’s played with Natasha Howard, Lexie Hull and Kelsey Mitchell earlier in her career, but was unfamiliar with everyone else coming in.

“I’m continuing to learn to play (with them),” she added. “And I have to learn fast, because we have another quick turnaround on Sunday.”

Sims was the first of two hardship additions made by the Fever last week. They signed point guard Kyra Lambert to a seven-day deal to provide more depth. Lambert, who has spent most of her professional career in Europe, did not play Friday.

The Fever play at Connecticut at 1 p.m., Sunday.
