Fever Star Sophie Cunningham Makes Honest Admission After Tough Loss to Mystics originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Indiana Fever suffered their second straight loss on Friday as they fell to the Washington Mystics in a tight one, 88-84. This defeat follows Tuesday’s 81-80 loss against the Dallas Wings, as Indiana has now lost two in a row at home in the span of four days.
Sophie Cunningham struggled with her shot against the Mystics, going just 2-of-6 from the field for eight points. The 6-foot-1 forward also registered two rebounds, six assists, three steals and two triples, but it wasn’t enough to help Indiana escape defeat.
Friday’s loss saw the Fever fall to seventh in the standings after the Golden State Valkyries, who are now sixth, secured a win against the Chicago Sky. When asked to share her thoughts on the playoff race heating up, Cunningham got brutally honest in her response.
“You know what, I don’t really pay much attention to all that,” she said. “I think for me, every game is a big game for us.

“I think that you have to stack the days. Of course, you don’t want to lose two in a row, especially here on your home court. But for us, we got to flush this one and move to tomorrow. How are we going to get better tomorrow? How are we going to go get Connecticut?”

It’s not that Cunningham doesn’t care about everything else that’s going around in the WNBA. The 28-year-old is focused on the things the Fever can control, which, at the end of the day, boils down to winning games.
As Cunningham said, the Fever must now turn their attention to the next game. They go back on the road for a matchup against the Connecticut Sun on Sunday.

This is a game that the Fever are expected to win as they battle a Connecticut team that has the worst record in the league at 6-26. After that, Indiana has six straight games against playoff contenders, starting with a home-and-home against the first-place Minnesota Lynx (27-5).
