Losing games isn’t doing Florida any favors in the extended rankings. CBS Sports dropped the Gators seven places to No. 58 overall in its Week 7 rerank following a 34-17 loss to the Texas A&M Aggies. Billy Napier’s seat continues to heat up with the team at 2-4 on the year.
Last week’s win over the Texas Longhorns bought Napier and Co. some goodwill, but it’s going to take a couple more upset wins for Florida to get out of this 40-60 territory. Next week’s matchup against Mississippi State is critical for the Gators. Winning could result in a double-digit jump. The Bulldogs are ranked No. 37 this week, 21 spots ahead of the Orange and Blue.

Florida finds itself sandwiched between the No. 57 Northwestern Wildcats and No. 59 Colorado Buffaloes in the extended rankings. The Gators haven’t been a factor in either major top-25 poll, last appearing in the AP Top 25 and the US LBM Coaches Poll in Week 2.
The Gators still face a challenging slate, including top-ranked opponents such as the No. 7 Ole Miss Rebels, No. 9 Georgia Bulldogs and No. 11 Tennessee Volunteers. Unranked matchups include a road trip to face the Kentucky Wildcats and this year’s annual regular-season finale against the Florida State Seminoles, set to take place in Gainesville.
