Florida outside top 50 in USA TODAY Sports college football rerank

by

The Florida Gators were one of eight teams to drop 10 or more spots in the USA TODAY Sports college football rerank after Week 4 action concluded.

Following a 16-spot dip, the Orange and Blue check in at No. 65 with a 1-3 record. Florida is on bye this week, so there’s little chance for the Gators to move up this list. The next opportunity comes the following weekend against Texas.

What was supposed to be a marquee matchup of two elite quarterbacks is instead building up to a meeting between struggling stars. Arch Manning has at least bounced back in recent weeks, but DJ Lagway is spending his off week in a boot. Limited practice time has contributed to Lagway’s slow start, so another week off from taking reps isn’t a good sign.

Unless Lagway and Co. turn things around, Florida appears destined to finish in the bottom 50% of this 136-team rerank.

SEC teams in USA TODAY Sports re-ranking

The Georgia Bulldogs remain on top of the 136-team rerank after a bye week. The LSU Tigers and Oklahoma Sooners also held steady at Nos. 6 and 7, respectively. Indiana was the big mover inside the top 10 this week, displacing Texas A&M Aggies in the No. 8 spot. TAMU and Ole Miss round out the top 10.

The Tennessee Volunteers are just outside the top 10 at No. 12 this week, the Missouri Tigers are up five spots to No. 15 and the Texas Longhorns check in at No. 15 for a second straight week. The Vanderbilt Commodores dropped one spot to No. 18, the Alabama Crimson Tide is up three to No. 24 and the Auburn Tigers are down four to No. 34.

South Carolina is the second-biggest loser in the SEC this week, with the Gamecocks dropping 12 spots to No. 40. Mississippi State passed Florida for the No. 62, and the No. 68 Kentucky and No. 69 Arkansas Razorbacks are the only two SEC teams below the Gators.

A 55-0 win over Long Island University in Week 1 didn’t sway the USA TODAY Sports re-rankers. The Gators climbed just one spot to No. 24 with a prove-it game against South Florida ahead. When USF upset Florida in Week 2, USA TODAY Sports dropped the Orange and Blue 16 places to No. 40.

Following a third consecutive loss, this time to LSU, Florida dropped to No. 49 overall.
