Submission specialists Jafel Filho and Clayton Carpenter have agreed to face off in a 125-pound clash at the upcoming UFC Fight Night event in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Oct. 11. Multiple people with knowledge of the booking told MMA Fighting.
The event is headlined by former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira against Rafael Fiziev at the Farmasi Arena.
Filho (16-4) is down to 2-2 under the UFC banner after losing an electric contest with Allan Nascimento in May, ending his two-fight finishing streak against Daniel Barez and Ode Osbourne.
A teammate of Jose Aldo in Rio de Janeiro, Filho holds a grappling victory over top-ranked flyweight Amir Albazi and gave Muhammad Mokaev one of his toughest matches to date in MMA, when he lost via third-round submission.
Carpenter (8-1) won his first two fights in the UFC with rear-naked choke finishes over Juancamilo Ronderos and Lucas Rocha before losing a decision to Tagir Ulanbekov in his most recent appearance.
A member of MMA Lab in Arizona, Carpenter stopped his opponents in six of eight professional wins, going 6-1 as an amateur between 2015 and 2018.
