Ted DiBiase Jr.’s federal trial officially began on January 7, 2026, with a seated jury and opening statements—but the former WWE star is already making headlines for what he didn’t say.
As revealed by footage captured outside the courthouse following day one of proceedings, DiBiase declined to answer questions from reporters pressing him on the trial’s early moments and the accusations against him. When asked, “How do you think the first day at trial went?” and “Do you take exception to people calling you a greedy conman who manipulated people?” DiBiase said nothing and walked off in silence, refusing to engage.
According to WJTV, the courtroom saw the introduction of key evidence—including a large volume of video footage DiBiase’s defense claims directly contradicts the prosecution’s narrative. The government alleges DiBiase stole millions in federal welfare funds meant for low-income families, funneling the money through shell companies and using it on personal items like a boat, home, and vehicle.
However, DiBiase’s legal team insists that more than 47 hours of newly produced video shows him conducting real training sessions under the contracts in question—disputing the indictment’s claim that he never intended to provide services.
“The indictment states that DiBiase did not provide and did not intend to provide social services. This is belied by copious video footage that the United States just produced,” the defense previously stated in a successful motion to delay the trial.
DiBiase faces 13 federal charges—including conspiracy, wire fraud, theft concerning federal programs, and money laundering—and up to 45 years in prison if convicted on all counts. The trial is expected to last at least three weeks.
