FootJoy’s Premiere Series is the star of the show on basically every professional tour. But don’t sleep on the Pro/SL.
The FootJoy Pro/SL is the brand’s most-worn spikeless golf shoe and now it’s been completely reinvented for a more precise fit, <a href="http://<!– wp:paragraph –> <p>FootJoy's Premiere Series is the star of the show on basically every professional tour. This is more than just another iteration. It’s a real evolution that pulls from 10 years of Pro/SL. Yep, it’s the 10th anniversary of the highly popular spikeless golf shoe and this new version has set the bar for what a performance spikeless golf shoe is, does, and acts like.
What’s new?
I thought you’d never ask. The main tech story here is the retooled traction. A spikeless golf shoe is only as good as its traction. That is to say, a spikeless golf shoe is worthless if it doesn’t help you stay grounded.
The new outsole (which FootJoy is calling ARCTrax/SL) has two distinct traction elements: sharp conical shapes in the heel and toe and directional wings in the midfoot. These two elements work together to provide omnidirectional traction in any condition.
In addition to retooled traction, the new FootJoy Pro/SL also features a re-engineered upper called ZTEC. That’s FootJoy-speak for a synthetic upper with TPU overlays and reinforcements in key areas. That said, it should do the job just fine and will <a href="http://<!– wp:paragraph –> <p>FootJoy's Premiere Series is the star of the show on basically every professional tour. Top it off (or bottom it out) with a StratoFoam crashpad in the heel (the forefoot is a standard EVA) and a nylon plate near the forefoot for torsional support and you’ve got yourself a <a href="http://<!– wp:paragraph –> <p>FootJoy's Premiere Series is the star of the show on basically every professional tour. Oh, and the fit has been updated, too, with more room in the toe box and better padding around the collar.
Is it any good?
While the FootJoy Pro/SL hasn’t been put through its paces here in our testing lab, I’m happy to offer my expert opinion. The new Pro/SL is a worthy upgrade over its predecessors and should be on your short list of spikeless golf shoes, especially if you’re already a fan of the FootJoy brand.
