Former Duke standout and ex-Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kyle Singler has been charged with misdemeanor assault in Oklahoma following an alleged domestic incident involving his girlfriend.
The 37-year-old was arrested Thursday in Whitefield, a small town in eastern Oklahoma, after a 911 caller reported that Kyle was “chasing a woman outside a residence,” according to the Associated Press. He was booked into the Haskell County Jail and later released on $6,000 bond, per jail records.
Court documents show Singler was charged Tuesday with one misdemeanor count of assault and battery in the presence of a child. His girlfriend told deputies that Singler “grabbed her by the head and shoved her to the ground,” according to an arrest affidavit.
Deputy Mitch Dobbs, who responded to the scene, reported visible injuries on the woman. “Deputy Mitch Dobbs also reported he could observe finger outlines on the woman’s face and marks on her arm,” NBC Sports wrote. The woman also told authorities that Singler is the father of her young child, who was present during the altercation.
Dobbs further noted that Singler did not cooperate with law enforcement and “appeared to be under the influence of narcotics.”
At this time, court and jail records do not list an attorney for Singler. His former agent, Jason Ranne, confirmed via email that he “no longer represents Singler.”
The incident comes almost a year after a cryptic Instagram post from the former NBA forward sparked concern among fans and former teammates. In that post, Singler said he “feared for his life,” prompting an outpouring of support from across the basketball community.
A former NCAA champion and 2010 Final Four Most Outstanding Player, Singler was drafted 33rd overall by the Detroit Pistons in 2011. He later joined the Oklahoma City Thunder, where he played parts of four seasons before leaving the NBA in 2018.
