Former Oklahoma Sooners OL heads to Big 12 school

by

It’s been a busy day in the transfer portal for the Oklahoma Sooners, as they’ve added multiple players who they hope can help them make a return trip to the College Football Playoff in 2026. However, the Sooners have also watched as some of their former players have found new homes in the portal.

One such player is former OU offensive lineman Jake Taylor, who has committed to play for the Iowa State Cyclones. Taylor spent four seasons in Norman, after arriving at OU in the 2022 recruiting class. Taylor was a starter when he was healthy in 2024 for the Sooners, but injuries continued to pile up, and he played in just four games that season, and didn’t play at all in 2025.

Taylor now heads to a Cyclones team that will be breaking in a new coaching staff, led by new head coach Jimmy Rogers. Taylor will provide them with a veteran presence, and a player who is a capable starter at right tackle when he is healthy.

Though Oklahoma is set to return four starters on the offensive line from last year, they’ve lost a lot of depth pieces to the portal, and they’ll look to build back that depth in the next couple of weeks. Taylor joins Isaiah Dent, Jacob Sexton, Troy Everett, Luke Baklenko, and Logan Howland as offensive linemen that have hit the portal. The Sooners have added two offensive linemen back to the roster already in Western Kentucky transfer Caleb Nitta and Arkansas transfer E’Marion Harris.

Taylor is also already the fifth former Sooner to find a new home, and four of them have landed in the Big 12. Aside from wide receiver Jayden Gibson committing to South Carolina, the Sooners will see at least four former players heading to their former conference in Taylor, quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr. and defensive back Maliek Hawkins (both heading to West Virginia), and defensive back Devon Jordan, who is headed to Baylor.
