MADISON – Wisconsin got its quarterback Sunday Jan. 4 and it appears to be an ideal fit.
The Badgers scored the key piece of their needs from the transfer portal when Colton Joseph, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound two-year starter from Old Dominion committed to the program. He has two years of eligibility left.

The addition of Joseph gives the Badgers an ideal fit for offensive coordintor Jeff Grimes’ offense. And in the scheme of the Badgers quarterbacks room it adds some continuity between the Joseph and the other top returning QBs who are on the roster as of Sunday morning. Redshirt freshman Carter Smith and rising junior Danny O’Neil also fit the dual threat mode.
Joseph was named the Sun Belt offensive player of the year and finished the season with 3,631 yards of total offense and posted 1,000-yard seasons in both rushing and passing. He ranks eighth in FBS with 302.6 total yards per game.
Joseph completed 59.7% of his passes (173 of 290) for 2,624 yards, 21 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. As a runner, he gained, 1,007 yards in 158 carries, a 6.4-yard average, and scored 13 touchdowns.
He comes to Wisconsin with 21 games of experience and 5,905 yards of total offense.

The addition of Joseph is part of what has been a big opening weekend for transfer portal additions for the Badgers’ ailing offense.
On Jan 3, Wisconsin secured a commitment from former Iowa State running back Abu Sama III as well as former Bowling Green tight end Jacob Harris. Sunday former Southern Illinois tight end Ryan Schwendenman signed.
