Former Spanish star urges Alexander Zverev’s father to step back

by

Alexander Zverev has had a season full of ups and downs, and having won only one title this year, the German tennis player cannot be fully satisfied. The 28-year-old is still looking for Grand Slams, but it seems that he will have to make an extra effort if he really wants to win such a trophy. Winning a Grand Slam alongside competitors like Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz is extremely difficult and requires enormous effort and commitment.

There is a lot of talk about the changes that Zverev will make, and it is already being mentioned that the German tennis player could add a new coach to his team in the future.

Zverev's head coach is Alexander  Zverev Sr., and his eventual departure from the coaching position would certainly cause a lot of reactions.

Campo reacts

Former Spanish tennis player Pancho Campo talked about Sascha Zverev in an interview with Punto de Break, stressing that Alexander Zverev's father can sometimes be an obstacle for his son, just like other parents.

“Sascha Zverev really intrigues me,” said Campo. “He has the physique, the height, the shots… but he doesn’t win Grand Slams! Every time he plays against the top players, he loses. I don’t know what’s going on.

For a player, family is always very important, but sometimes parents are their biggest enemies. A parent is the best support, if used correctly, but they can also ruin your career.

Look at Jennifer Capriati! They didn’t make peace until the day she was inducted into the Hall of Fame . I don’t know Zverev’s case as well, but I think his father should take a step back and let someone else manage his son’s career.”

Alexander has serious ambitions and wants to use this part of the year to prepare for the next season. During the year, he talked about mental difficulties and lack of motivation, and it is clear that he will have to work on this aspect if he really wants to progress.

You could feel that the German tennis player was not focused enough on the court, and when a player is not motivated enough, it is difficult to be dominant. However, we will see what the next season brings and how much Zverev can really achieve.
