Former Tennessee player who never earned a key role for the Vols named as one of the biggest freak athletes in college football originally appeared on A to Z Sports.
A former Tennessee Vols player who left the program earlier this offseason after two quiet seasons on Rocky Top was named this week by The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman as one of the biggest freak athletes in college football.

Feldman ranked former Vols running back Cam Seldon at No. 70 on his annual “college football freaks list”.
Seldon, a former four-star recruit who was rated as the No. 77 overall player in the nation, transferred to Virginia Tech earlier this offseason.
From The Athletic: He spent two seasons at Tennessee as a reserve running back/returnman before coming back to his home state, where he was once the top-ranked prospect in Virginia and won state titles in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash (twice) and 4×100-meter relay. The 6-1 1/2, 210-pound Seldon is probably the fastest Hokie, having clocked 22.9 mph this offseason. He also broad jumped 10-4 and vertical jumped 36 inches.
Seldon rushed for 224 yards and a touchdown during his two seasons at Tennessee.

The Virginia native is expected to see a significant amount of time at wide receiver for the Hokies — potentially in a Deebo Samuel-type role.
“I’ve been pleasantly surprised,” said Virginia Tech head coach Brent Pry this spring when asked about Seldon. “He catches the ball more naturally than I anticipated. He’s got really good speed. He’s got a great build. He’s got really good work ethic. To this point, with four practices in the winter program, he’s everything that I hoped he’d be.”
“I think he’s got the ability to do that (a Deebo Samuel role),” added Pry. “Are we able to do that with our offense and with the personnel we have? We’ll see. But based on his running back background, he’s good with the ball in his hands after the catch.”
Feldman also included Tennessee junior linebacker Arion Carter on his freaks list. Carter landed at No. 12 on Feldman’s list.

From The Athletic: The 6-1, 235-pound junior had a breakout season in 2024, leading a stacked defense with 68 tackles to go with 6.5 TFLs and one interception. The junior will linebacker, a team captain, is a more explosive athlete than most running backs. This offseason, Carter, a former 300-meter hurdler in high school, vertical jumped 40.3 inches. He’s also hit 21.2 mph on the GPS and bench pressed 325 pounds.
