For slightly older tennis fans, Mark Philippoussis is famous in the tennis world. During his career he had many shining moments; he was even on the verge of winning the Grand Slam titles, but he failed to achieve his goal.
Ending his professional career, the Australian devoted himself to coaching, but he also sometimes works as a tennis analyst in his spare time.
On one of the podcasts, Philippoussis shared his views on today's tennis, referring to the dominance of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. The former tennis star enjoys watching these two tennis players, happy that there are tennis players who can succeed famous names like Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic who will soon retire from the sport.
“I very much do. You have Sinner and Alcaraz, and every time those two are playing against each other, I feel like they are incredible ambassadors for the sport.
We are lucky to have them, as I think we got a little worried when Rafa and Federer (retired) and Djokovic, hopefully we have got him for another year, but to have two figures like that in incredible roles for the game of tennis is amazing.
I enjoy watching the games. I sat and watched Davis Cup over the weekend and unfortunately, it wasn’t the result we wanted but I was glued to my TV watching that, so I definitely do enjoy it, especially if it’s certain players going at it.”- he said, as quoted by Tennis Gazette.
Women's tennis
Women's tennis is becoming more and more popular, and Philippoussis reveals that he often follows women's tennis. It is noticeable how much women's tennis has progressed in recent years, with a growing base of people following the sport and enjoying the great moves of popular tennis players like Sabalenka, Swiatek and many others.
“The women I have been really enjoying. I have been watching just as much women’s as the men’s and I feel like the tennis has just been incredible from the women, they have taken it to another level."
