Kentucky Football head coach Will Stein continues to add his first coaching staff with the addition of Derek Warehime as the run game coordinator. Warehime confirmed the news in a December 24 post on Twitter. His profile now reads ‘Run Game Coordinator @UKFootballl.’ The school has yet to announce his addition.

Warehime comes to Lexington having previously served on Coastal Carolina’s coaching staff, led by Tim Beck. He served in that role for four seasons.

Prior to that, Warehime’s most notable role came when he was on the Texas Longhorns coaching staff for three seasons from 2017-19. Warehime was the Longhorns’ special teams coordinator in 2019, their tight ends coach for two seasons (2018-19), and their offensive line coach in 2017.

Warehime was also the Houston Cougars offensive line coach from 2015-2016, including when the Cougars upset Florida State in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl in 2015. He had two stints at New Mexico, including as its offensive coordinator from 2020-22, while also coaching tight ends in both stints.

Warehime started his career as a student assistant at Tulsa in 2005. A 2006 graduate of Tulsa, Warehime started 34 games at center from 2001-04. He played on the Golden Hurricane’s 2003 Humanitarian Bowl team and was named first-team All-Western Athletic Conference in 2004. He spent one season playing professionally with the Tulsa Talons of the Arena Football League.

The new assistant has already offered one scholarship on behalf of UK to 4-star class of 2027 recruit Kyler Kuhn, who plays at St. Pius X in Missouri.
