Longtime MMA fighter Geronimo Dos Santos has died.
Dos Santos, 45, disappeared Saturday on a beach in Sao Gabriel da Cachoeira, Brazil. Dos Santos, who was visiting the beach with his girlfriend, went for a swim and never returned, according to Brazilian outlet Globo. His body was recovered Monday. Nicknamed “Mongdragon,” Dos Santos competed around the world for various promotions ranging from Mr. Cage to RIZIN to ACA to Fight Nights Global. In 2012, he signed with the UFC but never competed after he withdrew from his debut scheduled for UFC 153 vs. heavyweight Gabriel Gonzaga. The promotion then released him. He had a pro MMA record of 45-26-1 at the time of his death.
Dos Santos most recently competed for BKFC when he knocked out former UFC heavyweight contender Aleksei Oleinik in 109 seconds. He was booked to fight Andrei Arlovski under the BKFC banner in June, but withdrew from the bout.
