Former Wisconsin wide receiver Keontez Lewis introduced himself to the Oklahoma Sooners fanbase in a major way on Saturday.
In the Sooners‘ 35-3 Week 1 win over Illinois State, Lewis paced their receiving corps with nine receptions, 119 yards and two touchdowns.

The first of his two scores came on the opening play of the fourth quarter. Facing a 1st-and-10 on the opposing 28-yard line, Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer took the shotgun snap, dropped back and connected with a breaking Lewis over the middle. Lewis caught the pass at the 10-yard line and accelerated into the end zone for the score.
His second score followed a similar script. Up 28-3 with 4:37 left in regulation, Mateer and the Sooners’ offense faced a 3rd-and-8 from the opposing 20-yard line. The quarterback dropped back and lobbed a ball to Lewis, who faced single coverage on the outside. The receiver won the matchup and came down with the ball in the end zone for his second highlight touchdown of the quarter.
Lewis is back at the Power Four level after spending the 2024 season at Southern Illinois. He tallied 49 catches, 790 yards and five touchdowns with the Football Championship Subdivision program, prompting the move up to the SEC.

Lewis previously spent one-plus seasons with the Badgers. After transferring in from UCLA, the 6-foot-3 receiver caught 20 passes for 313 yards and three touchdowns as a major contributor in 2022. He then entered the transfer portal just two weeks into the 2023 campaign after Luke Fickell reshaped the program’s receiver depth chart.
He, former Purdue transfer Deion Burks and Arkansas transfer Isaiah Sategna are set to lead the Sooners’ receiving corps throughout the 2025 campaign. With a potential Heisman Trophy candidate in Mateer under center, the trio should receive plenty of opportunities to fill the stat sheet.
Oklahoma is looking for a breakthrough after going 6-7 in its first season as an SEC member in 2024. The team is back on the field next Saturday for a marquee home matchup against No. 14 Michigan.
